NFL Week 1 Friday: Chiefs face Chargers in Brazil - Yahoo Sports

The NFL International Series continues in Week 1 of the 2025 season, with the Kansas City Chiefs taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in a renewal of this AFC West rivalry from São Paulo, Brazil. This marks the second regular-season game to take place in South America, following last year’s game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Green Bay Packers.

Kansas City is coming off its third consecutive trip to the Super Bowl after failing to three-peat against the Eagles in SBLIX. Patrick Mahomes and company look to bounce back minus wide receiver Rashee Rice, who will serve a six-game suspension, and All-Pro guard Joe Thuney, who was traded to Chicago in the offseason. All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce and second-year wideout Xavier Worthy will stand as Mahomes’ top targets out of the gate this season, with former seventh-round pick Isiah Pacheco leading the run game.

For the Chargers, it’s about taking another step forward in the second year of the Jim Harbaugh era. Offseason improvements centered around the offense, especially in the backfield. The Chargers drafted explosive RB Omarion Hampton out of North Carolina in the first round and signed veteran back Najee Harris in free agency.

Justin Herbert’s second season in coach Harbaugh’s offense is something fans are eagerly anticipating, along with being reunited with Pro Bowl wideout Keenan Allen and second-year wideout Ladd McConkey, who had 82 receptions, 1,149 yards and 7 touchdowns in his rookie campaign.
