It is a bet we will gladly take.
Record-wise, the Kansas City Chiefs remain on a roll and on track for the No. 1 overall seed in the AFC. They have every justifiable reason to have faith in their ability to achieve an unprecedented third straight Super Bowl win.
There have been bumps along the way this season, of course. And one analyst thinks the biggest bump of all is …
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes?
It’s Bleacher Report’s Brad Gagnon who wonders if this success – featuring 10 incredibly tight games, all won by Mahomes’ Chiefs – is in part about luck.
And about whether Mahomes’ luck is due to run out.
“The Chiefs can make it happen this year, but it’s hard to believe they can sustain it all considering how often they’ve gotten lucky despite inconsistent and generally sloppy play offensively,” Gagnon writes. “A now-injured Patrick Mahomes is having the worst season of his career, and he lacks support at offensive tackle, wide receiver and even in the offensive backfield.”
Gagnon adds that it is “not too surprising” that the Chiefs have failed to crack 30 points on offense this season given their struggles. The team has instead relied on its defense and some big plays … to maintain the league’s best record.”
Indeed, KC has a top-five defense in terms of points allowed and is ranked at No. 12 in scoring offense. But is that a “problem”? Do the Chiefs need to rank higher on offense to be a threat?
The Chiefs are geting some good news for today as Mahomes is going to try to play through an ankle injury on Saturday against the Houston Texans.
And how will he fare? Poorly? We will take that bet, fueled by the firm believe that if a team’s biggest “problem” is Patrick Mahomes, that team doesn’t have many problems.
