With the Steelers not picking up Jones’ option, it extends their streak of not picking up a player’s fifth-year option to five. The last first-round pick to have his option picked up was T.J. Watt.

Terrell Edmunds signed a one-year deal with the Steelers in 2022 to remain with the team after his option wasn’t picked up. Devin Bush signed with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023 before landing with the Cleveland Browns, and is now with the Chicago Bears. Najee Harris signed with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025 after his option was declined in May, 2024. And, of course, Kenny Pickett was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles after two seasons.

Next in line for their option to be picked up is 2024 first-round pick Troy Fautanu.
