Chiefs rule Trey Smith out for matchup with Commanders

Chiefs' offensive line faces key test with two starters likely out against Commanders

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Pro Bowl right guard Trey Smith is officially out for Monday night’s primetime matchup with the Washington Commanders.

The Chiefs’ official list of inactive players included Smith after the fifth-year pro did not participate in any practices this week. Smith missed most of Kansas City’s win over the Raiders last week due to a back injury.

Along with Smith, the Chiefs will have cornerback Kristian Fulton, wide receiver Jalen Royals, tight end Jared Wiley, running back Trey Smith, defensive end Malik Herring, and rookie left tackle Josh Simmons out.

Simmons will be missing his third consecutive game due to a personal matter.

The Commanders announced earlier Monday afternoon that veteran kicker Matt Gay was going to miss the game due to a back injury. In his place, ex-Chiefs kicker Matthew Wright will fill in.

Along with Gay, the Commanders will be without starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, who will miss the game due to a hamstring injury suffered last week against the Dallas Cowboys. In his absence, Marcus Mariota will start for Washington.

Wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Terry McLaurin will return to the lineup for Washington after missing time recently due to heel and quad injuries, respectively.

Kickoff between the Chiefs and Commanders is set for 7:15 p.m. CT on ESPN and ABC.
