Expected roster locks and players on roster bubble for Packers entering cutdown day

The Green Bay Packers will spend the next few days determining the team’s initial 53-man roster for the 2025 season. Roster cutdown day is Tuesday, and all NFL teams must trim the roster to 53 players by 3:00 p.m. CT that day.

Predictions on the Packers’ 53-man roster are flooding the internet. You can find ours here. Elsewhere on the web, Justis Mosqueda of Acme Packing Company has done a terrific job compiling final predictions on the roster here, and we can use the wisdom of the crowd to help determine roster locks and who is on the roster bubble entering Tuesday.

As of Sunday afternoon, Mosqueda has compiled 10 different predictions. We will consider any player found on all 10 predictions to be an “expected roster lock.” At this point, we have 44 locks, and a few others who are very close to locks.

Expected roster locks (44)

  • QB (2): Jordan Love, Malik Willis

  • RB (3): Josh Jacobs, Emanuel Wilson, Chris Brooks

  • WR (6): Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed, Matthew Golden, Dontayvion Wicks, Savion Williams, Malik Heath

  • TE (3): Tucker Kraft, Luke Musgrave, John FitzPatrick

  • OL (7): Rasheed Walker, Aaron Banks, Elgton Jenkins, Sean Rhyan, Zach Tom, Jordan Morgan, Anthony Belton

  • DE (4): Rashan Gary, Lukas Van Ness, Kingsley Enagbare, Brenton Cox

  • DT (4): Kenny Clark, Devonte Wyatt, Karl Brooks, Warren Brinson

  • LB (4): Quay Walker, Edgerrin Cooper, Isaiah McDuffie, Ty’Ron Hopper

  • CB (4): Keisean Nixon, Nate Hobbs, Carrington Valentine, Bo Melton

  • S (4): Xavier McKinney, Evan Williams, Javon Bullard, Kitan Oladapo

  • ST (3): Brandon McManus, Daniel Whelan, Matt Orzech

A few things to consider: rookie edge rusher Barryn Sorrell (eight predictions) and safety Zayne Anderson (nine) would be roster locks if not for knee injury concerns ahead of Week 1. Both were placed on injured reserve with designation to return within the predictions in which they were not on the 53. And offensive lineman Jacob Monk (nine) and defensive tackle Colby Wooden (nine) were just one prediction away from expected roster lock status. So 44 locks could easily be 46 or even 48 at this point.

It’s possible the Packers are attempting to pick the final 5-9 roster spots from this group of players:

  • WR Mecole Hardman

  • TE Ben Sims

  • OL Jacob Monk

  • OL Donovan Jennings

  • OL Kadeem Telfort

  • DE Arron Mosby

  • DE Barryn Sorrell (IR possibility)

  • DL Colby Wooden

  • DL Nazir Stackhouse

  • LB Kristian Welch

  • LB Isaiah Simmons

  • CB Kalen King

  • CB Corey Ballentine

  • CB Kamal Hadden

  • S Zayne Anderson (IR possibility)

One could reasonably make an argument for any of the players listed above to be on the first roster.

Of course, every 53-man roster has a surprise or two. It’s possible rookie Savion Williams, who has a hamstring injury, could start the season on IR. Or maybe MarShawn Lloyd’s hamstring injury isn’t severe, and he makes the first 53 — which would shake up the running back position. Or maybe a rookie like cornerback Micah Robinson or offensive lineman Brant Banks finds a way onto the first roster. Or maybe a player like Malik Heath or Warren Brinson or Bo Melton isn’t a roster lock. Or maybe long snapper Matt Orzech is released at final cutdowns to open a roster spot, knowing he can return in a few days after the initial roster is remade to accommodate pre-existing injuries. A lot about the roster is already known, but the range of outcomes is still decently wide.

To that final point: it’s called an “initial” roster for a reason. Teams from across the NFL are going to be releasing players before Tuesday’s deadline, so a big pool of players is about to be available. The Packers can attempt to claim any players waived on Tuesday (or earlier) starting on Wednesday, making it possible that the roster will change on the fringes just 24 hours later.
