During his training camp press conference, Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo shared his interest in watching defensive back Chris Roland-Wallace grow in Saturday’s preseason opener against the Arizona Cardinals.

“Yeah, very similar. C-Ro (Chris Roland-Wallace) is kind of taking on that same role that Chamarri (Conner) has done for us.” said Spagnuolo, “The interesting thing, if I go back to last year, I think we had him (Chris Roland-Wallace) at safety out of need last year and found out he could do those things, and then eventually he evolved (to) becoming a nickel. You’ve been here the whole time. He’s made a lot of plays. We look for production in our guys. I’d like to see him against another team, obviously, so we look forward to see what he does against Arizona.”

During his rookie season, Roland-Wallace earned two starts, recorded his first interception and forced fumble, and collected 34 tackles in 17 games.

“I always consider myself a football player,” said Roland Wallace in his conversation with reporters on Thursday, “so whatever it is that I’m asked to do, I just go out there and do it.”

The versatility of the young defensive back could be a key to his securing a prominent role in Spagnuolo’s defense.
