BREAKING : Bengals make telling statement about key rookie vs. Eagles

Cincinnati Bengals guard Dylan Fairchild (63) takes the field during Bengals Camp practice at Paycor Stadium in Cincinnati on Aug. 2, 2025.

The Cincinnati Bengals rolled out rookie offensive lineman Dylan Fairchild with the first-team offense during the team’s Week 1 preseason opener against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fairchild looked good, though it was hard not to while Joe Burrow diced up Eagles defenders on the way to a pair of passing touchdowns before making his exit.

Just as telling was Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin telling the sideline broadcast that the starting job was “his to lose,” referring to Fairchild.

That about seals the deal on that competition, as veteran Cordell Volson, benched last year, doesn’t project to get back in the running.

More concerning now might be right guard, where new arrival Lucas Patrick appeared to struggle at times in his debut with the team.
