Jared Goff finds himself on Bleacher Report’s latest QB rankings.

It is officially rankings season in the NFL, and Lions fans are watching to see where their players fall.

Quarterback is the most commonly ranked position, as fans and analysts are always fighting for the hottest takes on the internet. Lions quarterback Jared Goff is always a controversial quarterback on these lists.

Due to his age and lack of athleticism, Goff usually ranks lower than he should on many of these lists. However, on the most recent list that hit the web, Goff was pretty appropriately ranked, contrary to the norm.

Goff ranked appropriately on recent QB ranking

Brad Gagnon of Bleacher Report put out his “NFL’s Top QBs After 2025 Draft” this week, and I was pleased as to where he ranked Jared Goff.

Gagnon had Goff ranked No. 7 in his post-draft rankings, and for the most part, I don’t disagree with any of the Quarterbacks he had above him. Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Joe Burrow are all quarterbacks that I completely agree with being ranked above Goff.

The two quarterbacks I don’t 100% agree with are Jalen Hurts and Justin Herbert. Hurts is fairly obviously not a better quarterback than Jared Goff, but Hurts making two Super Bowls and winning one this season makes this ranking acceptable.

Herbert is an uber-talented young quarterback, but has struggled much more in the playoffs than Jared Goff and has been statistically worse than Goff in recent years. Herbert is the only quarterback above Goff on this list that I have a serious problem with.

Overall, No. 7 is a fairly adequate ranking for the 30-year-old. Goff is coming off arguably the best season of his career, finishing top-six in yards, touchdowns, and QBR. Jared Goff had a six-game stretch this season with an 82.8 completion percentage and 140.1 passer rating, both NFL records.

“Goff was also off the charts with a jaw-dropping 128.9 passer rating on third down, and that’s not completely new for a veteran with a superb 102.7 passer rating dating back to the start of the 2022 season.,” said Gagnon on his ranking.

Goff has been on fire the past three seasons for Detroit, posting 4,400-plus yards and 29-plus touchdowns in each of the past three years. During this stretch, the Lions have gone 2-2 in the playoffs, and would have been better if not for injuries on defense.

Jared was a wizard in play-action last season for the Lions. He led the league in play-action pass attempts at 203 and yards at 2,060. The next highest quarterback had 600 fewer passing yards in play-action than Goff, making him by far the best in the league in that category.

Last summer, Jared Goff signed a four-year, $212 million contract extension with Detroit. This contract keeps Goff in Detroit until he is 34 years old, with a possible opt-out after his age 33 season.

The Lions stumbled into Jared Goff when trading away Matt Stafford in 2021, and this has turned into a blessing for the Lions as their QB of the future is finally getting his respect in the national media.
