Blackhawks fans who were longing for Chicago to be on the ice during the 4 Nations Face-Off (raise your hand if that’s you… please…) will get their fill of games between now and the March 7 NHL Trade Deadline.
And it doesn’t stack up as an easy stretch of 11 days for the Blackhawks.
Tonight, the Blackhawks start a three-game road trip that has them in Utah, Vegas (Thursday) and Anaheim (Saturday). They then return to Chicago for three games in five days — including a home game on the deadline day itself against Utah (again). The Blackhawks host Los Angeles on Monday night and Ottawa on Wednesday night.
Entering Tuesday, three of the five teams the Blackhawks play between now and the deadline are in a playoff spot. Ottawa holds the second wild card in the Eastern Conference while Vegas and LA are among the top three in the Pacific Division.
Anaheim is six games back of Vancouver for the second wild card spot in the Western Conference, but they’re 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. Utah is one of the three teams between the Ducks and Canucks in the wild card standings; they’re four points back of Vancouver and the Canucks have one game in-hand.
The game between Utah and the Blackhawks at 7:30 PM CT on March 7 could be a wild one if either/both teams are active before that afternoon’s trade deadline. The Hawks depart on a four-game road trip immediately after that game, beginning in Nashville the following night.
