It’s been a few days now since the Philadelphia Eagles thrashed the Kansas City Chiefs at the eagerly-anticipated Super Bowl on Sunday (9 February).
The Super Bowl saw a number of dramatic moments – including Kendrick Lamar performing that song during the halftime show as well as Taylor Swift getting booed by the crowd when she was shown up on the jumbotron.
It didn’t take long for Donald Trump, whose appearance marked the first time a sitting American president has attended the major sporting event, to share his thoughts on the uncomfortable incident.
The 78-year-old Republican leader shared a post on his social media platform, Truth Social, which read: “Trump gets massive cheers at the Super Bowl while Taylor Swift gets booed.
“The world is healing!”
Prior to such comments, however, Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce was asked what he thought of Trump’s attendance at the game, to which he said it was a ‘great honour’.
He continued: “I think, you know, no matter who the president is, I know Iβm excited because itβs the biggest game of my life, you know, and having the president there, you know, itβs the best country in the world. So, thatβd be pretty cool.”
And it’s clear his previous comments haven’t gone down well with fans, with many rushing to social media to slam the Chiefs tight end following the 40-22 loss to the Eagles.
One X user hit out: “Maybe if Travis Kelce didnβt say he was honoured to play in front of Trump then he would have caught that ball.”
A second claimed: “Travis Kelce gave the entire Chiefs team bad juju after saying he was honoured that Trump was gonna be there.”
And someone else added: “The way Travis Kelce said it was an honour to have Trump watch him play just to lose this bad OOOO IM CACKLINGGG!”
Following the booing ordeal, Kelce seemingly wasn’t too happy with the jeering towards his girlfriend, as a source close to him reportedly told MailOnline: “Travis was aware of Taylor getting booed and he felt helpless. Seeing the look on her face got to him.
“He always protects her and it broke his heart. He was already having a tough night and the fact that the stadium was predominantly Eagles fans didn’t help. Travis knows that this hurt her and anyone can see this.”
They also responded to Trump’s response to Swift being booed: “Travis believes that it was unnecessary for Trump to take a dig at her especially after he voiced that he was honoured for a president to be there.”
The source concluded: “After Taylor being shut out for a Grammy and Travis losing the biggest game of the year it just hasnβt been a good week for them.
“But he knows that even though this is not a happy ending to the season having her love gives him so much joy.”
Tyla has previously reached out to Travis Kelce’s representatives for comment.
