ESPN’s beat writers redrafted the first two rounds of the 2024 draft this week, which saw Rob Demovsky taking over for Brian Gutekunst as the general manager of the Green Bay Packers. At 25th overall, Demovsky elected to pass over offensive lineman Jordan Morgan, who the Packers actually drafted in the slot in April, and went with the betting favorite at the time: Iowa cornerback Cooper DeJean.
Here’s what Demovsky had to say about his decision:
The Packers passed on DeJean in April, but they could have used him right away given that Jaire Alexander played just seven games while battling a knee injury. DeJean, who had 50 tackles while playing as Philadelphia’s slot cornerback, would have also been a smart play for the future. Morgan ended up playing just 174 snaps over six games because of a recurring shoulder injury. — Rob Demovsky
Unfortunately, linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, who the Packers selected in the second round in 2024, also was picked in the first round — going 32nd overall to the Kansas City Chiefs. So the addition of DeJean came at the loss of Cooper. With the Packers’ two second-round picks, Demovsky selected safety Evan Williams, a fourth-round pick in real life, and Morgan, who was still on the board with the 58th overall pick. Cooper’s fellow Packers second-round in real life, safety Javon Bullard, was not selected in the two-round redraft.
Which set of three draft picks would you rather have had in Green Bay? The ones they actually turned in back in April or the ones that Demovsky selected? Voice your opinion in the comment section.
