Time will tell whether or not he will be part of the New England Patriots’ staff in 2025, but Omar Young will nonetheless represent the team at the Senior Bowl. As was announced on Saturday, Young will serve as the running backs coach down in Mobile, AL, this coming week.

Young, 41, joined the Patriots last offseason as a coaching assistant under head coach Jerod Mayo and offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt.
Before arriving in New England, he coached at both the college and NFL level — including the previous two seasons with the Chicago Bears, for whom he initially worked as a quality control coach as well as assistant quarterbacks and wide receivers coach. He also served as the Bears’ running backs coach for the final two months of the 2023 season.
What the future holds for Young remains to be seen, though. Under new head coach Mike Vrabel, who replaced the fired Mayo earlier this month, the Patriots have started cleaning house on the offensive side of the ball. Van Pelt also fell victim to that process, with Josh McDaniels being hired to replace him as coordinator.
So far, eight members of the 2024 Patriots’ offensive coaching staff have left. Meanwhile, three assistant coaches have been hired: Ashton Grant and Tony Dews are expected to coach quarterbacks and running backs, while Riley Larkin will serve as an offensive assistant.
Young, meanwhile, is one of three coaches with ties to the Patriots assigned to one of the college all-star games. Assistant offensive line coach Robert Kugler and outside linebackers coach Drew Wilkins will coach at the East-West Shrine Bowl, even though their statuses for 2025 are uncertain as well.
Senior Bowl practices will take place Jan. 28 to Jan. 30. The game itself will be played on Feb. 1 at Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama in Mobile.
