The Green Bay Packers announced some big news on Friday.
The Packers have signed head coach Matt LaFleur, general manager Brian Gutekunst, and executive vice president/director of football operations Russ Ball to contract extensions.
“We are excited to extend our commitment to Brian, Matt, and Russ as the leaders of our football operations. Their steadfast dedication, passion, and collaboration have remained constant in our drive to compete at the highest level,” Packers president and CEO Ed Policy said in a statement, via the team’s website.
LaFleur has been the Packers’ head coach for the last seven seasons, compiling a 76-40-1 overall record. He has led the Packers to the playoffs in six of those seasons and has won 11 or more games four times.
Gutekunst has been the Packers’ general manager since January 2018 and has done a nice job building the team up to a playoff contender. He first joined the team as a scout in 1999 and held that role through 2011, before being promoted to director of college scouting in 2012. He had that role through 2015 before serving as the Packers’ director of player personnel in 2016 and 2017.
Ball first joined the Packers in 2008 as their vice president of football administration/player finance. He held that role through 2017 before he was promoted to his current role.
The Packers now have their top front office decision-makers and their head coach locked up for the foreseeable future. They’ll get to work on improving the team over the offseason.
