The Cleveland Browns unveiled plans to develop a new stadium in the Cleveland area. The Browns’ ownership group is planning to invest more than $2 billion in the stadium and development of the surrounding area.
“The new stadium will sit less than a mile from Cleveland city limits, and is easily accessible from two major highways, which is particularly important since 85% of our home game attendees live outside of the city limits,” said Dave Jenkins of Haslam Sports Group, which owns the Cleveland Browns.
The Browns have some of the most loyal fans in the NFL. Cleveland fans have suffered through constant quarterback changes, zero Super Bowl appearances and just four winning seasons since 1995.
The Browns’ plans for Huntington Bank Field in Brook Park includes a “new enclosed stadium with an adjacent mixed-used development”.
Cleveland announced their plans via their official team website. The Browns’ ownership group along with partners intend to invest more than $2 billion in private capital in their stadium project.
Browns fans would greatly benefit from being indoors instead of outdoors during cold Ohio winters. The Browns envision the stadium being used as a concert venue, basketball stadium, and soccer stadium in addition to serving as their NFL home.
Cleveland’s current stadium, Huntington Bank Field, was built in 1999.
