Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl 58 hero Mecole Hardman has signed a one-year deal with the Green Bay Packers.
He goes from one storied franchise to another. Hardman was the hero of Super Bowl 58 when he scored the game winning touchdown in overtime to help the Chiefs defeat the San Francisco 49ers.
The catch enabled the Chiefs to win their second consecutive Super Bowl.
During his eight-year career Hardman caught 178 balls for 2,302 yards and scored 16 touchdowns.
His best season was in 2021 when he had 59 receptions for 693 yards and eight touchdowns. He was never able to replicate the numbers of that season.
He brings his speed into Matt LaFleur’s offense and will immediately become a threat for quarterback Jordan Love. He should be able to give the Packers quality repetitions while Christian Watson is out.
Hardman, originally drafted by the Chiefs in 2019 left to play for the New York Jets in 2023, but was traded back to the Chiefs for a sixth-round draft choice. It was at the end of that season he scored the game winning touchdown in the Super Bowl.
The former Georgia Bulldogs star had a tremendous college career. He finished with 59 receptions for 950 yards and 11 touchdowns in only three seasons. He is also a skilled return specialist and the Packers might elect to use him in that role.
Hardman had originally met with the Packers divisional-rival Chicago Bears earlier this week and signals were trending up for the Bears in being able to reach a deal with him. However, Hardman had a change of heart and ended up in Titletown.
