Cowboys will need to depend on 2 young players in 2025

As the Dallas Cowboys head into 2025, they have so many unanswered questions about not only the head coach, but the roster that will be on the field for them.

I will first say that the coaching staff outside of Brain Schottenheimer at least on paper and what folks are saying, does not seem as bad as I thought it was going to be, we will see how that works out once September rolls around.

Beyond that, the Cowboys have 25 players set to hit free agency, including four former Pro Bowlers. That is a number nobody wants to look at.

Young OL

That leads me to the point of this blog post: the Dallas Cowboys are going to need two young guys to make a HUGE leap this season.

Tyler Guyton and Cooper Beebe look like they will be starters on the offensive line next year no matter what. This team is just going to ride with them.

We saw the raw talent of Guyton in his rookie season, but he needs to be on the field more. That is where it starts.

He only had 14 starts at tackle at Oklahoma, all on the right side. He was pretty raw, and it showed. He also needs to be able to play through some nicks and bruises better than he did.

Asim Richards played well there in his place. And who knows, he might be able to create some competition there for the starting job.

I loved Cooper coming out of Kansas State, and he played actually pretty well last season for this team.

The good thing about him is he’ll be able to play at center or guard for the rest of his career if, one day, the Cowboys find a natural center they feel is better than Beebe and have a need at guard.

2025 Outlook

To start, this team might not even have future Hall of Famer Zack Martin.

His contract is up, and an ankle injury saw Martin miss a good chunk of the year, only playing in 10 games. Priority No. 1 is getting back to full health before making a decision on his status moving forward.

“I’m focused on getting healthy,” Martin said via 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. “I think people forget, I’m a free agent. So, I’m not under contract with anyone. First and foremost, I want to get healthy and then when free agency rolls around, see what’s going on, and then make a decision from there.”

So if they lose him, they are going to have another hole they will need to fill.

Tyler Smith is a stud, so we don’t have to worry about him, but it seems that they will be going completely young and depending on Beebe and Guyton & maybe Terence Steele.

Following Steele’s five-year extension, where he can earn up to $86.8 million, Steele had arguably his worst season with the Cowboys. The team can opt out of Steele’s contract in 2026.

The Cowboys just hired Klayton Adams from the Cardinals to do their offensive coordinator, he was the offensive line coach there.

Starting right guard Will Hernandez looks to test the open market after his two-year, $9 million contract with the Cardinals concluded at the end of 2024.

He was interviewed during Super Bowl week, and said Dallas found the right guy. Listen to that tweet above.

At the end of the day, Dallas will need to bring in another body via another team or they are once again just going to try and draft a guy and hope it hits like Tyler Smith did. Guyton so far does not look the part.

A lot of things this team needs before the season starts, and banking on two young guys on the most important spots is tough.
