BREAKING: Cowboys Likely to Make Offer to Head Coaching Candidate

Dự đoán về huấn luyện viên NFL: Ai sẽ giành được Cowboys, Raiders và các vị trí mở khác?

It was certainly a disappointing season for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys.

After three straight seasons going 12-5, the Cowboys finished 2024 with a 7-10 record and failed to make the postseason entirely. Now, Dallas will be moving forward without head coach Mike McCarthy, who parted ways with the organization after five seasons.

The Cowboys were late to the party in regards to the hunt for a new head coach and missed out on some big-name candidates, such as Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn.

Still, Dallas had already interviewed three candidates, including Seattle Seahawks assistant head coach Leslie Frazier, Philadelphia Eagles OC Kellen Moore and former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh. On Tuesday, it added to that list after an interview with their own offensive coordinator, Brian Schottenheimer.

Shortly after news broke of the interview, Shan Shariff of 105.3 The Fan revealed that he expects the Cowboys to make an offer to Schottenheimer soon.

Schottenheimer has plenty of experience in the NFL, just not in the head coaching position. After many years as a positional coach for numerous teams, Schottenheimer got his shot as an offensive coordinator for the New York Jets from 2006 to 2011, when he helped the team make the AFC Championship Game.

Since leaving New York, Schottenheimer has been the offensive coordinator for multiple different football teams, including the St. Louis Rams, Georgia Bulldogs and Seattle Seahawks. He joined the Cowboys as a coaching analyst in 2022 before getting promoted the following year.

Although Schottenheimer was the offensive coordinator for Dallas over the past two seasons, it had been McCarthy who was calling the plays. If Jones were to hire Schottenheimer as the Cowboys’ next head coach, it would give the players a familiar face to look upon. However, fans would likely not react to it well.
