In the wake of his firing and because of the subsequent stories being told with regard to it, former New England head coach Jerod Mayo’s wife Chantel Rostant went scorched earth on the Patriots and threatened to expose “all the lies” she says are being told. Mayo was let go after just one season as the team’s coach after going 4-13.
“It never even crossed our minds to tell the truth… but I couldn’t even fathom all the lies we’ve read that are being told to save face. What happened to the class?????” Chantel Rostant wrote on her Instagram story.
“We’ve been taking the high road and letting everyone do their thing since Sunday. But playing with someone’s name won’t be tolerated. I bet the fake stories will stop before the real ones start.”
She also added on Instagram, “The attack against you only indicates the potential within you.”
Jerod Mayo, who served as the Patriots inside linebackers coach for four seasons under Bill Belichick before replacing the coaching legend in 2024, had been named to the team’s All-2010s Team after playing his entire eight-year career with New England.
At the time of his hiring, Jerod Mayo was the youngest head coach in the NFL. He was a lightning rod for controversy both before and after his firing, and not just because he was following in the footsteps of the winningest coach in NFL history after 24 seasons at the team’s helm.
From the moment he was hired, controversies such as Mayo and holdout Matthew Judon beefing during training camp, his handling of the quarterback situation, his game management, talks of a potential coup, Bill Belichick being critical of him, and reports that he would often act more like a player than a head coach, made his very brief tenure as New England’s head coach anything but smooth.
