Do you think the firing of Hobby was a smart move?
The Cincinnati Bengals are letting go of numerous coaches after a disappointing 2024 season came to a close on Sunday.
While the Bengals did their part in Week 18, beating the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road, it wasn’t enough, as the Denver Broncos annihilated the Kansas City Chiefs and will get that final spot in the AFC Playoffs.
That started a chain reaction of firings for the Bengals. Marion Hobby, the team’s defensive line coach, was among them. Defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo was another one who won’t be returning to the Queen City.
As for Hobby, the former third-round pick in the 1990 NFL Draft, started his coaching career in the college ranks before transitioning to the NFL in 2017.
He was originally the Jacksonville Jaguars defensive line coach, then jumped to the Miami Dolphins in 2019 for a few seasons and has been with the Bengals since 2021.
The Bengals had one standout on the defensive line in Trey Hendrickson. However, the unit as a whole significantly underperformed expectations, as the Bengals finished 26th in the NFL in sack percentage (5.91%). That must improve moving forward.
The defense was the clear weakness for Cincinnati, and now things will have to change. That said, what is your take on Marion Hobby’s firing? Was it justified, or were the other problems in the organization to be blamed?
