Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is, without a doubt, one of the greatest players in NFL history. When he decides that his career is over, he will be a first ballot inductee into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He will also become one of the privileged few to have his number retired by the Packers, joining legends Tony Canadeo, Brett Favre, Don Hutson, Bart Starr, Ray Nitschke, and Reggie White.

Of course, there is a great deal that can be said about the way that Rodgers handled his relationship with the front office during the latter days of his tenure with the Packers. Additionally, there will undoubtedly be a great deal said about his upcoming divorce from the New York Jets.

But none of that can change the fact that, during his prime (and even after), he put together some of the single seasons the NFL has ever seen from a quarterback.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers Won 4 NFL MVP Awards

After leading the Packers to victory in Super Bowl XLV and winning Super Bowl MVP, Rodgers went on a run of efficient seasons that saw him set many franchise and NFL records.

In 2011, he won his first career NFL MVP Award after completing 68.3% of his passes for 4,643 yards, 45 touchdowns, six interceptions, and a 122.5 passer rating, which remains an NFL single-season record. Amazingly, he put up these numbers while sitting out Green Bay’s final game, which saw backup quarterback Matt Flynn throw six touchdown passes against the Detroit Lions.

Rodgers won his second NFL MVP Award in 2014, a year that nearly saw Green Bay return to the Super Bowl, only to fall in the NFC Championship Game to the Seattle Seahawks in what is one of the biggest collapses in franchise history. Regardless of the disappointing outcome, Rodgers did complete 65.6% of his passes for 4,381 yards, 38 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 112.2 passer rating.

In 2020, the Packers decided to take Jordan Love in the first round of the NFL Draft, an obvious sign that Rodgers’ days in Green Bay were numbered. He responded by winning his third NFL MVP Award, completing 70.7% of his passes for 4,299 yards, 48 touchdowns, five interceptions, and a 121.5 passer rating.

He won it again in 2021, for the fourth time, after completing 68.9% of his passes for 4,115 yards, 37 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 111.9 passer rating.

Former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ Single-Season Passer Rating Record May Be Broken By Lamar Jackson

While Rodgers is struggling with an 89.1 passer rating with the Jets this season, defending NFL MVP (and two-time winner) Lamar Jackson is having another great season with the Baltimore Ravens.

So far, this season, he has completed 67.9% passes for 3,955 yards, 39 touchdowns, four interceptions, and a 121.6 passer rating. With one game remaining, and the Ravens scheduled to play the lowly Cleveland Browns on Sunday, there is a possibility that Jackson could break Rodgers’ record of a 122.5 passer rating that he set in 2011.

“If I’m in my childhood mindset [with] breaking a record, yes,” Jackson said of breaking the record. “But I’m trying to win games, so it really [doesn’t] matter. If it happens, it happens. If it [doesn’t, it] probably will happen sometime down the line.”

The Ravens do need to win the game on Sunday in order to clinch the AFC North (or see the Pittsburgh Steelers lose to the Cincinnati Bengals).
