Cincinnati Bengals bench talented rookie wide receiver for Steelers game

The Cincinnati Bengals are benching wide receiver Jermaine Burton for their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. A promising rookie, Burton has remained in limbo with the coaching staff, with a few publicized instances of him being late to meetings and practices. At one point, one of those instances came before a game where he was supposed to be involved more in the offense, but the Bengals were forced to sit him instead.

It is not known what exactly forced Burton to get benched this time around, but the Bengals confirmed that he would not travel with the team to Pittsburgh for their game on Saturday that will decide their playoff hopes. He has been ruled out and it is listed as a coach’s decision.

Wide receivers Tee Higgins and Charlie Jones both remain questionable for the game, though Higgins seems likely to play after being limited throughout much of the week.

Either way, the loss of Burton will give more reps to others, like Andrei Iosivas, who is the starting slot wide receiver but came off for certain looks with Burton active.
