Will Chiefs’ DJ Humphries or Joe Thuney be KC’s starting left tackle in the playoffs? – Kansas City Chiefs could get injured players back in time for playoff push

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Chiefs have faced challenges this season based on a number of injuries to key players.

That could change just in time for the Chiefs to make a push in the playoffs.

Head coach Andy Reid said Monday that it is possible several injured players may be healthy enough to be ready to play in at least part of the Chiefs postseason games.

That includes offensive lineman D.J Humphries who suffered a hamstring injury against the Chargers.

“He’s doing good. I can’t make you any promises. I want to get him out to practice and kind of see where we’re at. He is doing good in his rehab part, that’s different than being on the field. I’d like to just see how he does there,” Reid said.

Humphries isn’t the only Chief that is making progress, but Reid isn’t making Chief’s Kingdom any promises.

“There’s a chance with Mecole [Hardman] and potentially [Jaylen] Watson—and I mean potentially—that would be stretching it though,” Reid said.

Running back Isiah Pacheco is expected to be available for the Chiefs first playoff game, but Reid said he probably won’t play Sunday in Denver.

“[Pacheco] will be available playoff wise. He is tender. I’ll probably hold him back this week in practice, just a bit, so he can be fresh and ready to go.”

The Chiefs kickoff against the Broncos in Denver at 3:25 p.m. Sunday. The game will air on KCTV5.

Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid said he will continue to evaluate the left tackle position ahead of his team’s opening playoff game in three weeks.

Specifically, Reid hopes to see D.J. Humphries play during Sunday’s Week 18 road game at Denver.

Humphries, who signed with the Chiefs late in the season, started at left tackle in a Week 14 home win against the Los Angeles Chargers before leaving the game with a hamstring injury. He has not returned to practice since.

“He’s doing good. I can’t make any promises,” Reid said of Humphries. “I want to get him out to practice and see where we’re at. But he is doing good in his rehab part. That’s different than being on the field, so I’d like to just see how he does there.”
