The Kansas City Chiefs locked up the No.1 seed in the AFC on Christmas day with a 29-10 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. As a result, the Chiefs are likely to sit most of their key starters in Week 18.

This will allow players like Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones to get to around 80%-95% healthy after their brutal schedule. Still, the Chiefs remain down, and one of their key defensive pieces is cornerback Jaylen Watson. That said, according to Chiefs Blitz on X, Watson was seen working out in the facility on Thursday.

Chiefs News: Jaylen Watson Could Return for Playoffs

Watson sustained a broken fibula-tibia( ankle) during the Chiefs’ Week 7 matchup versus the San Francisco 49ers. Following that, it was reported that Watson would miss the rest of the season.

Despite multiple reporters corroborating this, Watson continually teased on social media that he would be back for the playoffs. Naturally, this excited fans, especially with how bad the cornerback play has been without him.

Nevertheless, it seemed like a long shot for Watson to return even for the playoff run. With this most recent development, though, it doesn’t seem like such a long shot.

Watson making his triumph return in the playoffs would help against the Ravens or Bills and whoever their Super Bowl opponent is. Given that the Chiefs are the top seed, they won’t have to play both the Ravens and the Bills. Instead, they will only need to play one.

While the Chiefs have beaten the Ravens this season, it was a close game even with Watson healthy. So, having Watson available for that game could be the difference form between a win and a loss.

The Bills, on the other hand, beat the Chiefs this season when Watson was injured. Even though Buffalo doesn’t seem to have one dominant receiver, Watson being on the field to slow someone down will help the Chiefs continue their dominance over the Bills in the playoffs.

As for the Super Bowl, Watson needs to slow down any opponent they face from the NFC because the top teams possess potent offenses.

Receiving the news of Watson’s potential playoff return is the second-best Christmas gift Chiefs fans can get behind clinching the No.1 Seed.
