Packers lead Vikings 3-0 after the first quarter

The Packers won the coin toss and took the ball. Dontayvion Wicks ran a pair of quick stop routes to convert the initial first down and Green Bay moved across midfield with a 6-yard Josh Jacobs run.

On the next play, however, Jacobs fumbled on a 7-yard run that was recovered by safety Cam Bynum at the Minnesota 38. The Vikings picked up one first down with a 7-yard pass to tight end Johnny Mundt.

Green Bay’s defense got off the field after pressuring Sam Darnold into throwing the ball away on second down and hitting a 1-yard checkdown to C.J. Ham on second-and-8.

The Packers took over at their 15 after a 30-yard Ryan Wright punt but went three-and-out after three downfield incompletions. Minnesota retook possession at its 35 after a 49-yard Daniel Whelan punt.

Sam Darnold had time to throw on third-and-2 and found T.J. Hockenson for 11 yards. A 7-yard run by Aaron Jones moved Minnesota to the Green Bay 39. Darnold nearly hit Jordan Addison on a touchdown, but Keisean Nixon recovered to break up the pass in the end zone on second-and-3.

Xavier McKinney blitzed from deep safety to help force a Darnold throw away before Will Reichard’s attempt at a 57-yard field goal was no good after hitting the crossbar.

Taking over at their 47, Green Bay fed Jacobs the ball on three straight plays for 14 yards. Tucker Kraft picked up 18 yards on an underneath pass, which moved the ball to the Vikings’ 10 after a personal foul was called on Harrison Smith for a low block.

After a 4-yard pass to Luke Musgrave on third-and-goal from the 8, Green Bay opted for a Brandon McManus 22-yard field goal to put the Packers up 3-0 with 1 minute, 47 seconds left in the first quarter.

The first quarter ended after three straight Aaron Jones runs to the Minnesota 38.
