Packers receive promising development for their defensive backfield

Safety Javon Bullard has missed the last two games with an ankle injury . Nonetheless, it seems like he’s getting closer to returning to the field for the Green Bay Packers.

The Packers didn’t have a normal practice on Wednesday returning from a Monday night game, but Bullard was listed as a limited participant at practice on the team’s estimation. It’s the first time Bullard would have practiced since he suffered the injury against the Detroit Lions in Week 14.

Bullard’s potential return would be particularly important for the Packers because fellow rookie safety Evan Williams injured his quad on Saturday. He missed the New Orleans Saints game and was listed as a non-participant. According to head coach Matt LaFleur, Williams is expected to miss more time — but there’s optimism he will return for the playoffs. Bullard, who had been playing mostly in the slot, could go back to his original safety spot alongside Xavier McKinney, with Keisean Nixon moving inside.

Wide receiver Christian Watson suffered a knee injury on Monday. While it’s only a bruise, he wouldn’t have practiced on Wednesday. There’s still a shot for him to play against the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, but it will depend on his pain management. Linebackers Quay Walker and Ty’Ron Hopper, both with ankle injuries, did not practice either.

Tight ends Tucker Kraft (hip) and Luke Musgrave (ankle) were limited, while cornerbacks Jaire Alexander (knee) and Corey Ballentine (knee) were listed as full participants.

Other side

For the Minnesota Vikings, the only players who wouldn’t have practiced were cornerback Fabian Moreau (hip) and safety Harrison Smith (foot). Defensive lineman Jalen Redmond was limited with a concussion.
