The Kansas City Chiefs are set to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day at 1 p.m. ET, setting up a matchup of two Super Bowl contenders from the AFC.
Before the two face off for the Christmas Day game, ESPN insider Adam Schefter revealed the latest injury report on star defensive tackle Chris Jones.
Schefter explained that Kansas City’s anchor on the defensive end is “unlikely” to play due to a calf injury. He suffered the injury in Week 16 against the Houston Texans.
While Jones was making progress in practice, listed as “questionable” for the game prior to this report, a quick turnaround for Kansas City, playing two games in five days, makes the recovery process extremely difficult.
Jones is one of the most established stars on Kansas City’s roster, helping the team throughout its recent dynasty.
The defensive tackle, who’s been with the Chiefs since 2016, is looking to help Kansas City become the first team in NFL history to win three straight Super Bowls after winning in 2022 and 2023.
Despite the injury woes throughout the season, the Chiefs currently stand as the betting favorite to win their third straight Super Bowl (+375), per ESPN BET.
So far this season, in Jones’ ninth year in the league, he’s recorded one forced fumble, five sacks and 37 tackles.
While Jones may not be able to suit up for the Chiefs, they’re favored in the contest. The Chiefs are listed as 2.5-point favorites entering the Christmas Day game, per ESPN BET.
Kansas City heads into Week 17 with a 14-1 record, riding a five-game win streak.
