KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – With less than a day before the 14-1 Kansas City Chiefs take on the 10-5 Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day, the status of two key players is up in the air.
On Tuesday, the Chiefs listed both defensive tackle Chris Jones and offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor as questionable.
Jones did not practice on Monday after he left Saturday’s game with a strained calf.
Jay Glazer of Fox Sports reported Jones suffered a grade 1 strain and that it could be a long shot for him to play Wednesday. Head coach Andy Reid has not commented on Jones’ readiness to play.
Taylor’s absence on Wednesday would require a new starting offensive line combination, with Wanya Morris likely to take the right tackle position. His status is related to a lingering knee injury.
The injury report also stated that Chamararri Conner and D.J. Humphries are out.
Conner suffered a concussion in Week 15 and Humphries has been out since then with a hamstring injury. This is Humphries’ fourth missed game since he was signed on mid-season and played one game.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained during Week 15 but says it’s improving.
“I think I’ll be in a better place ankle-wise. Obviously, the body’s gonna be sore with the short week and everything like that, but I think the ankle should be in a better place,” Mahomes said in a press conference.
The game airs locally on KCTV5 and live streams on Netflix. Kickoff is at noon.
