The Kansas City Chiefs are one win away from clinching the No. 1 seed in the AFC after defeating the Houston Texans on Saturday.
Heading into the matchup, many wondered about the health of Patrick Mahomes, who suffered an ankle injury against the Cleveland Browns the week prior. However any concerns that fans had about Mahomes were silenced in the first quarter when he took in a 15-yard rushing touchdown.
Mahomes finished with 293 total yards and two total touchdowns. After the game, coach Andy Reid gave his thoughts on Mahomes’ performance coming off the injury.
“I didn’t think he’d be able to get out and run like that or would run like that,” Reid said. “He did a great job with all of that. He had that mindset right from the get-go, Adam (Teicher) that he was going to be out there and going. He didn’t miss a beat. He practiced every rep.”
Reid continued, praising Mahomes for his mindset following the injury.
“He spoiled the dog out of us there because he’s so tough mentally and physically,” Reid continued in revealing appreciation for the QB. “You just get used to it, but most guys don’t come back from that like he did. But he set his mind to it and then he jumped in that training room and stayed in there.”
Mahomes will likely take it easy in practice for the next few days before the Chiefs travel to face the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
