10 Quick Facts Following the Chiefs Week 16 Win Over Houston | Upon Further Review

The Kansas City Chiefs moved to 14-1 on the season with a victory over the Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon.

Here are some quick notes from the win.

1. Kansas City has now won 14+ games for the third time under Head Coach Andy Reid.

The Chiefs are winners of at least 14 games for the third time under Head Coach Andy Reid, matching the win totals from the 2020 and 2022 campaigns. The Chiefs have never won 15 games in the regular season, and with two weeks left to play, Kansas City will have a shot at the franchise record.

Here are Coach Reid’s win totals since taking over the Chiefs in 2013:

Chiefs Defeat Texans, 27-19, for Kansas City's 14th Win of the Season

2013: 11-5 (made playoffs)

2014: 9-7

2015: 11-5 (made playoffs)

2016: 12-4 (won AFC West)

2017: 10-6 (won AFC West)

2018: 12-4 (won AFC West)

2019: 12-4 (won Super Bowl LIV)

2020: 14-2 (won AFC)

2021: 12-5 (won AFC West)

2022: 14-3 (won Super Bowl LVII)

2023: 11-6 (won Super Bowl LVIII)

2024: 14-1

Remarkably, while the Chiefs have totaled three 14-win campaigns since 2020, the rest of the NFL has combined to post just one 14-win season in that span (the 2022 Philadelphia Eagles).

2. The Chiefs went undefeated at home during the regular season for the first time since 2003.

Kansas City finished its regular-season slate of home games with a perfect record on Saturday. The Chiefs defeated Baltimore, Cincinnati, New Orleans, Tampa Bay, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles and Houston at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium this year. This marks the Chiefs’ first undefeated regular season at home since the 2003 campaign.

The Chiefs are one of only two teams to compile a perfect record at home this year, joining the Buffalo Bills (who sit at 6-0 with two games left to play).

3. Kansas City yielded just one sack on Saturday against Houston’s high-powered pass-rush.

A major storyline heading into Saturday’s game was the status of quarterback Patrick Mahomes’ mobility while facing a Texans’ pass-rush that entered the contest with the second-most sacks (45) of any team in the NFL.

As it turned out, Mahomes – who played on Saturday despite an injured ankle – evaded that pressure masterfully throughout the game. Houston tallied just one sack, and the duo of Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. combined for just three quarterback hits and zero sacks.

4. Wide receiver Xavier Worthy is now tied for the most overall touchdowns by any rookie this season.

Worthy now has eight total touchdowns on the season, matching Jaguars’ wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. for the most scores of any rookie in 2024. Worthy is also one of just three players (regardless of rookie status) to tally at least five receiving touchdowns and three rushing scores this season, joining Dolphins’ tailback De’Von Achane and Buccaneers’ tailback Rachaad White.

The 21-year-old Worthy tallied season-bests in catches (7) and receiving yards (65) on Saturday. His 653 yards from scrimmage this season rank ninth among all rookies.

5. Wide receiver Hollywood Brown made a pair of big plays in his Chiefs debut.

Brown, who missed the first 14 games of the year due to a shoulder injury suffered during the preseason, certainly made the most of his return to the field on Saturday.

The veteran receiver hauled in five catches for 45 yards, including a 12-yard reception on 4th-and-1 and a 20-yard catch on 3rd-and-7 a bit later. Both grabs extended drives that eventually ended with touchdowns.

Overall, Brown drew eight targets across 20 offensive snaps on Saturday.

6. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes now has 25 total touchdowns on the season.

Mahomes quelled any concerns about his mobility on Saturday with a 15-yard touchdown scramble up the middle on the Chiefs’ opening series. He later added a passing touchdown – an 8-yard strike to Xavier Worthy – for his 23rd of the year.

Mahomes now has 25 total touchdowns on the season with two games left to play.

7. Tailback Kareem Hunt tallied his sixth touchdown of the year.

Hunt completed a 13-play, 82-yard scoring drive with a touchdown late in the second quarter on Saturday to reclaim the lead for Kansas City. It was the sixth touchdown of the season for Hunt, and his first since Week 9.

The veteran tailback now has 884 total yards from scrimmage (708 rushing, 176 receiving) in 12 games with Kansas City this year.

8. Kansas City recorded multiple takeaways for the second week in a row.

The Chiefs picked off Texans’ quarterback C.J. Stroud twice on Saturday as safety Jaden Hicks and cornerback Trent McDuffie each recorded an interception. It marked a second-consecutive week with a pick for both McDuffie and Hicks, who were each part of the Chiefs’ six takeaway performance against Cleveland in Week 15.

Kansas City now has 18 takeaways for the year (which ranks 13th in the league) after totaling just 10 through the first 14 weeks of the season.

9. The Chiefs haven’t committed a turnover in five weeks.

Kansas City has now played 20 consecutive quarters without committing a turnover. The Chiefs are one of only two teams without a giveaway since Week 12, and the other team – Buffalo – has only played three games thus far in that span.

The Chiefs, who operated in the negative all year prior to Week 15, are now +4 in terms of turnover margin for the year.

10. Kansas City has now held opponents under 20 points in nine of its 15 games.

The Chiefs held Houston to just 19 points on Saturday, marking the ninth time this season that Kansas City held the opposition under 20 total points. Only the Broncos (10) and Chargers (10) have tallied more such games this year.

Additionally, the Chiefs have already matched last year’s team in that category with two games left to play.

Kansas City is just one win (or a Buffalo loss) away from clinching the top seed in the AFC playoff picture, and now on a short week, they’ll quickly turn the page toward a matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day.
