BREAKING: Proposed Trade Has Lions Land Award-Winning Star as Aidan Hutchinson’s Replacement

Lions Trade Pitch Has Detroit Losing QB But Replacing Aidan Hutchinson

The Detroit Lions continue to look for ways to replace star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson’s production. Detroit lost one of the best NFL pass rushers for the season with a broken leg.

The good news for the Lions is the team has until the NFL trade deadline on Nov. 5 to make a deal. Athlon Sports’ Chris Licata put together a list of top potential NFL trade proposals and has Detroit bringing another star defender to The Motor City.

Hutchinson’s impact is nearly impossible to replace, and it remains to be seen if Detroit will turn to outside options. Yet, Los Angeles Chargers star pass rusher Khalil Mack is an intriguing potential option for the Lions.

Chargers' Khalil Mack reveals ultimate goal that'll lead to retirement

The trade pitch has the Lions acquiring Mack by sending 2025 fourth-round and seventh-round picks to the Chargers. Mack brings with him an impressive resume as an eight-time Pro Bowler and was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2016.

The star defender is on a one-year, $19 million contract and will be a free agent in 2025. Mack has just 2.5 sacks in 2024 after posting a career-high 17 last season.

“Yes, it may be unlikely, and there may be more cost-friendly options out there, but with Haason Reddick seemingly working out his differences with the Jets for this season, the Lions need a real impact replacement for Aidan Hutchinson,” Licata wrote on Oct. 24.

“Through seven weeks, no other Lions defender has more than 19 quarterback pressures. Hutchinson had 45 in five games,” Licata added.

“Enter Mack, who is still disrupting offenses at age 33 (leads the Chargers in pressures with 22) and is fresh off of consecutive Pro Bowl seasons.”
