BREAKING: Chiefs Make Historic Travis Kelce Announcement

Chiefs Make Historic Travis Kelce Announcement - Athlon Sports

After Travis Kelce secured another piece of NFL history on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, the Kansas City Chiefs made sure to honor their star tight end.

In a social media post on Tuesday, the Chiefs made an official announcement revealing Kelce’s latest milestone. By recording 45 receiving yards on five catches, the 35-year-old became the fastest tight end to reach 12,000 receiving yards in NFL history.

Kelce did it in 172 games, surpassing Tony Gonzalez who set the previous record with 210 outings.

“Another game, another accolade for our guy, @killatrav,” the Chiefs wrote in the caption of their post.

The photo that came with it also read, “Travis Kelce has reached 12,000 career receiving yards in 172 games, the fastest by a tight end in NFL history.”

It’s not the first time that Travis Kelce has broken a Tony Gonzalez record this 2024 season. Earlier in the campaign, Kelce also broke the Pro Football Hall of Famer’s pass receptions and receiving yards records with the Chiefs.

Gonzalez played for Kansas City from 1997 to 2008.

Kelce actually has a chance to break another Gonzalez record, as he is just one touchdown away from breaking his tie with the Chiefs icon for the most receiving touchdowns in franchise history.

While Kelce has only scored two receiving touchdowns this season, the Chiefs still have four games left, which should provide ample opportunity for him to set a new record.

Sure enough, all eyes will be on Kelce as he looks to make more history while trying to help the Chiefs achieve a Super Bowl three-peat.
