The Detroit Lions have played two straight Thursday night games in a row against the arch rival Bears and Packers, leaving a void in the hearts and minds of Detroit football fans this weekend as the Lions rest up for next weekend’s showdown with the Buffalo Bills and their star QB Josh Allen.
Recently, it was revealed that a group of Motor City football fans have decided to stage a Dan Campbell lookalike contest in hopes of keeping the spirit of football alive in Detroit during the Lions’ long rest.
Lions coach Dan Campbell shared his thoughts on the contest in a hilarious way recently as he pondered why someone would consider doing such a thing.
“I don’t know why you’d waste your time with that,” Campbell said earlier this week before the Packers game. “There’s got to be better things to do, unless the prize is something worth having. Is there a legitimate prize to it? Maybe I’ll get in it.”
Campbell led the Lions to the NFC North title last season and now Detroit is knocking on the door for the best record in the NFC and homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
The Lions could need homefield advantage to achieve one of their team goals of making it to the Super Bowl, as Philadelphia, Minnesota and other challengers have shown the chops to go toe-to-toe with Campbell’s squad this season. The Lions lost on the road in the NFC title game to San Francisco this past winter after a furious second half comeback by coach Kyle Shanahan’s team.
