BREAKING: How’d Chiefs Kicker Become All-Time Leader While On IR?

The Kansas City Chiefs will be in the playoffs for the 10th-straight year after their victory in Week 13.

Chiefs' Harrison Butker commencement speech sparks backlash

Despite their win against the Las Vegas Raiders being closer than many anticipated, it was still a huge day for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who became the Chiefs’ all-time leader in passing touchdowns.

While that was the only record that a Kansas City player earned on Friday, the team earned another one at the end of the weekend. Following the events of Sunday’s games, kicker Harrison Butker is the NFL’s all-time most accurate kicker.

Butker has been out since Week 10 with a knee injury that led to the team placing him on injured reserve. But, due to some surprising missed kicks, Butker didn’t even need to play to take the top spot.

Heading into the weekend, Butker was third on the all-time accuracy list behind Carolina Panthers kicker Eddy Piñeiro (first) and Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker (second). However, after both kickers ahead of him missed two kicks on Sunday, Butker was catapulted into the top spot with an 89.21-percent success rate on field goals.

In his eighth season with the Chiefs, Butker has made 18 of his 20 field goal attempts (90 percent) and 21 of his 22 extra point attempts (95.5 percent), proving he wasn’t showing any decline prior to his injury.

Although he is currently on injured reserve, Butker is expected to return this season. He can be back in the lineup as soon as next week, with the fourth game of his stint on injured reserve coming this weekend.
