BREAKING: 3 burning questions for Cleveland Browns to answer against Denver Broncos on MNF

Browns' 3 big questions heading into game at Denver Broncos

BEREA — For the third time this season, the Browns will have an opportunity to put together a win streak. For the first time this year, that opportunity will come on the road.

Specifically, the Browns will have a chance to build off last Thursday night’s win over the Pittsburgh Steelers with another prime-time opportunity on “Monday Night Football” at the Denver Broncos. It’s the first time they’ve played back-to-back prime-time games since Weeks 14 and 15 in the 2020 season when they played a Monday night home game against the Baltimore Ravens and then a Sunday night road game at the New York Giants.

That season ended with 11 wins and a playoff win in Pittsburgh before losing in the divisional round at the Kansas City Chiefs. With the Browns 3-8, this season probably has no shot of providing any of those memories.

Still, following up a win over Pittsburgh with just the second win in Denver since 1990 would be a nice Thanksgiving treat for the Browns. So what does Cleveland have to do to provide its fans that treat?

Here’s a look at three questions for the Browns to answer against the Broncos:

Can Cleveland Browns make Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix finally look like a rookie?

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix (10) reacts after a win over the Atlanta Falcons on Nov. 17 in Denver.

Bo Nix isn’t your run-of-the-mill rookie quarterback. The first-year Denver signal-caller played 61 games in college over three years at Auburn University and two more at the University of Oregon.

That experience has shown for the No. 12 overall pick in last April’s draft over the first 12 games of his career. He’s recorded at least 200 passing yards, two passing touchdowns and no interceptions the last three games.

If Nix can do that against the Browns, he would be the first rookie quarterback to accomplish that feat in four consecutive games in league history. As it is, he’s already been the AFC’s Offensive Rookie of the Month in October, was the AFC Offensive Player of the Week in Week 11 and has set the Broncos franchise record for rookie quarterback wins by three over the four wins by Drew Lock in 2019 and some guy named John Elway in 1983.

It’s been a while since Nix has truly looked like a rookie. If the Browns can do that on national television Monday, it’ll go far in helping them win the game.

Can Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett have another big game getting to the opposing QB?

The tone for the Browns win over the Steelers last Thursday was set by defensive end Myles Garrett. The reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year sacked Pittsburgh quarterback Russell Wilson three times in the first half, including a strip sack to set up a field goal.

A year ago, Garrett couldn’t get to Wilson while he was Denver’s starting quarterback. Left tackle Garett Bolles — with a little help from both teammates chipping or double-teaming, as well as multiple holding calls ignored — limited Garrett to just one quarterback hurry, and the Cleveland star suffered a shoulder injury as well.

Garrett has recorded three first-half sacks in two of the last three games. Another performance like that would go a long way toward making Nix look very much like a rookie, which would go a long way toward a Browns win.

Can Cleveland Browns WR Jerry Jeudy have a triumphant return to Denver?

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy (3) is tackled by Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Ja'Sir Taylor (36) on Nov. 3 in Cleveland.

Browns wide receiver Jerry Jeudy spent his first four NFL seasons in Denver after the Broncos made him the No. 15 overall pick in the 2020 draft out of the University of Alabama. Cleveland made him their new big receiving target with the combination of a March trade to bring Jeudy to Northeast Ohio, and an October trade to send Amari Cooper to the Buffalo Bills.

However, it’s been Jameis Winston taking over at quarterback for the injured Deshaun Watson that has seemingly unlocked Jeudy the most. He has 24 catches on 36 targets for 379 yards and one touchdown since Week 8, when Winston was named the starter.

Now comes the really tricky part — continuing that in what will certainly be an emotional return to Denver, regardless of what Jeudy says publicly.

The Broncos had tried to trade Jeudy since at least the 2023 trade deadline, if not earlier. Jeudy now gets a chance to show Denver what it gave up when it dealt him to Cleveland.
