The Kansas City Chiefs have made a host of roster moves leading into and in the aftermath of last weekend’s rookie minicamp.

Per the Transactions section of the team’s official website, Kansas City signed two of their draft picks at the same time they officially signed 20 rookie free agents on Friday.

One of their fifth round selections, wide receiver Cyrus Allen, was also reported to have signed. This also true for quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, whom the Chiefs took near the end of the seventh round.

The Chiefs are currently estimated to have less than $7 million in salary cap space. They will need to do some accounting work to be able to fit their entire class — with a pair of pricey first round selections under the limit.

Per Spotrac, Allen is expected to receive a four-year contract worth $4.6 million with a 2026 cap charge of about $980,000. Nussmeier’s estimated $4.4 million contract’s initial cap hit will only be about $915,000.

For the offseason, only a team’s 51 highest numbers will count on the rolling salary cap. Because Allen and Nussmeier will come in under Kansas City’s current 51st highest figure of $1 million, their contracts will have no immediate financial impact (outside of the office actually responsible for issuing their small signing bonuses).

The Chiefs can easily sign fourth round defensive back Jadon Canady and fifth round running back Emmitt Johnson with minimal cap considerations. Even taking on second round pass rusher R Mason Thomas’ estimated $2.2 million 2026 charge will only have a net reduction of about $1.2 million in cap space.

First round cornerback Mansoor Delane, however, singlehandedly has an estimated 2026 cap hit of $7.6 million. Defensive tackle Peter Woods year one hit of $3.3 million would also be tough to fit under Kansas City’s current cap picture. Expect at least one sizeable restructure of an existing veteran contract before deals for Delane and Woods are finalized.

Also on Friday, the Chiefs’ website reveals that second year linebacker Brandon George was waived on Friday as the Chiefs’ offseason roster stretched to the maximum of 91 players (including an international player exemption for tackle Chu Godrick).

George joined Kansas City as an undrafted free agent out of Pittsburgh in 2025, but he spent his rookie season on injured reserve.

The Chiefs also made six roster moves on Monday, as a trio of tryout players were added following the rookie camp.
