KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Chiefs are continuing to make moves in order to clear up cap space this offseason.
The Chiefs released veteran defensive end Mike Danna on Monday, after spending six seasons with the team.
Danna would’ve been just over an $11 million cap hit. The move also gives the Chiefs $8.9 million in cap space.
During his time in KC, Danna accumulated 21.5 sacks, 194 tackles and four forced fumbles. Dana was selected by the Chiefs in the fifth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He signed a three-year, $24 million deal with the Chiefs in 2024.
The Chiefs thanked the 28-year-old edge rusher for his services on social media Monday.
As for the Chiefs, this is their second move within the last five days to free up cap space. Last week, the team restructured Patrick Mahomes’ contract, giving the Chiefs $43.56 million in cap space.
Another potential candidate to be released is Jawaan Taylor, who would be a cap hit of over $27 million.
It will be an interesting offseason in Kansas City as the Chiefs continue to re-tool their roster for offseason acquisitions.
