Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals did not have the season they were expecting. After four consecutive winning seasons, the Bengals finished below .500 for the first time since 2020, when Joe Burrow missed the second half of the season after suffering a torn ACL. The 2025 season featured something similar as Burrow missed nine games after suffering a turf toe injury in Week 2.
The Bengals got off to a hot start but did not fare well without Burrow. After their 2-0 start, they won one of the next nine games. Burrow returned and gave the offense a boost, but it was too late to make a significant push toward the postseason. Despite only appearing in eight games this season, Burrow has received some exciting news from the NFL.
Cincinnati Bengals Make Joe Burrow Announcement
A few days before the Pro Bowl games begin, the NFL and the Bengals have announced that quarterback Joe Burrow will be participating . It will represent Burrow’s third Pro Bowl appearance, who becomes the fourth Bengals quarterback to make at least three Pro Bowls. He is one Pro Bowl appearance shy of matching Ken Anderson, who is the Bengals quarterback with the most Pro Bowl selections.
In 2025, Burrow started eight games and completed 173 of 259 passes attempted for 1809 passing yards, 17 touchdowns and only five interceptions. His passing yards per game marked the lowest of his career. Burrow will now join Bengals backup quarterback Joe Flacco in the Pro Bowl. They will also join an AFC Pro Bowl quarterback room that features Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
In Week 1 of the 2025 season, the Bengals faced off against the Browns. Joe Burrow started for Cincinnati, while Joe Flacco started for Cleveland and was backed up by third-string quarterback Shedeur Sanders. The teams faced off again in Week 18 as Shedeur Sanders started for the Browns, Burrow for the Bengals, and Flacco was the backup to Burrow. Both the Bengals and Browns now have two quarterbacks in the Pro Bowl, as Flacco played for both teams this season.
Joe Burrow’s Future
Despite the Pro Bowl nod, the season did not turn out as Joe Burrow likely hoped. He admitted during the season that it had not been a fun experience. His blunt comments raised eyebrows as teams around the league wondered if the Bengals quarterback may have wanted out of Cincinnati. Burrow later clarified the comments as he said, “My comments had nothing to do with Cincinnati. ” However, that did not stop trade rumors from surfacing.
Now, Bengals starting running back Chase Brown has put an end to those rumors. He said, “Joe’s not going anywhere, I think that was totally blown out of proportion. It was definitely a good talking point for people. It gave the media a lot to talk about and probably made [Burrow’s] Twitter notifications go off, but Joe’s not going anywhere.”
Burrow is under contract with the Cincinnati Bengals until 2029 and has not given any indication that he will request a trade.
