πŸ”₯ Chiefs Emerging as a Legit Contender for a Shocking Quarterback Move

Chiefs Emerging as Possible Contender for Surprising Quarterback MoveThe Kansas City Chiefs head into the NFL offseason after a brutal 2025 season that saw them miss the playoffs and superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes go down with a torn ACL.

Mahomes is hoping to return by the start of the 2026 NFL season. However, there is no guarantee that his knee will be ready to go for Week 1. With that being said, the Chiefs would be wise to look into the quarterback market this offseason.

Bringing in a quarterback who could start off the season and give Kansas City a good chance to start hot would be wise.

Keeping that in mind, the Chiefs have been connected as a potential suitor to make a surprising move at the quarterback position during NFL free agency.

Chiefs emerging as possible contender for surprising quarterback move

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox has taken a look at the best and worst landing spots for quarterbacks who could change teams this offseason. When it came to New York Giants impending free agent signal caller Russell Wilson, he named Kansas City as the best possible destination.

“Wilson is unlikely to find a true starting opportunity this offseason, but he could make sense as a bridge option for the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes is recovering from a torn ACL, and neither Gardner Minshew nor Chris Oladokun is under contract for 2026,” Knox wrote.

“Joining Kansas City might allow Wilson to start a few more games, perhaps be part of a Chiefs resurgence, and calmly shift into the backup phase of his career.”

Wilson played a backup role for much of the 2025 NFL season with the Giants behind rookie signal caller Jaxson Dart. At this point in his career, the likely role for Wilson moving forward will be as a backup who can step in and start when called upon.

That is exactly the kind of role he would have with the Chiefs. However, he would receive the perks of joining a potential Super Bowl contender if Mahomes can come back healthy at some point early in the year.

Wilson played in six games for New York in 2025. In those appearances, he completed 58 percent of his passes for 831 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions, while also running for 106 yards.
