The Kansas City Chiefs coaching staff has already undergone several changes following its first losing season in more than a decade, but moving on from offensive coordinator Matt Nagy isn’t part of the plan.
Kansas City may have to do so, nonetheless, as Nagy is a candidate for multiple jobs during this head coaching cycle.
Quarterback Patrick Mahomes spoke with media members on Thursday, January 15 amid the early stages of his rehabilitation process from an ACL and LCL injury he sustained in Week 15. During that session, a reporter asked Mahomes about what he’s looking for in a new OC if Nagy departs for a job elsewhere.
“I know coach [Andy] Reid, if coach [Nagy] is able to get another job — a head coaching job — he’ll have a good plan of who he wants to bring in,” Mahomes said. “For me, I just want someone that loves football, that cares about football, that wants to give everything they can to win.”
“To hold people accountable, and then to bring new ideas every single day — I think that is something we have to continue to do if you want to continue to be great in this league,” Mahomes added. “You have to continue to evolve and get better and better. That is something we’ll try to do here.”
Matt Nagy Predicted to Land Head Coaching Job With Tennessee Titans

Nagy has interviewed with the Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Las Vegas Raiders and Tennessee Titans.
Dan Graziano of ESPN predicted earlier this week that Nagy will ultimately end up landing the Tennessee job.
“This was the first name that got floated as a possibility when Callahan was fired, likely because of Titans GM Mike Borgonzi’s connections to Nagy from his time in the Kansas City front office,” Graziano wrote. “Nagy is a former [Chicago] Bears head coach who’s on his second stint with the Chiefs and helped develop Patrick Mahomes during his first one. Tennessee will be looking for a good offensive head coach to steward the next stage of Cam Ward’s development.”
Several Prominent OCs Contending for Head Coaching Jobs Around NFL

Among the top offensive coordinators who are candidates for HC jobs around the league other than Nagy are Klint Kubiak of the Seattle Seahawks, Cincinnati Bengals OC Dan Pitcher, Grant Udinski of the Jacksonville Jaguars and Buffalo Bills coordinator Joe Brady.
It is unclear if any of them would be willing to leave their current jobs for the same role with a new team, though the opportunity to work with Mahomes could be enticing enough for one, or more, to consider making the leap.
Los Angeles Rams pass game coordinator Nate Scheelhaase is another name to keep an eye on if Nagy departs, as he has drawn interest from multiple teams as a head coach as well.
Sam McDowell of the Kansas City Star outlined how the Chiefs’ staff already looks different in multiple ways just a couple of weeks into the offseason.
“There are four changes to the Chiefs coaching staff so far, per sources: They have fired RBs coach Todd Pinkston and WRs coach Connor Embree,” McDowell wrote. “Louie Addazio chose to move on for the OL job at UNLV. Alex Whittingham has joined the Michigan staff. Could be more after the carousel settles, but there’s where it stands for now.”
