
With the NFL playoffs in full swing, franchises across the league are experiencing the thrill of advancing closer toward capturing the Lombardi Trophy while others are experiencing agony, realizing that their championship dreams are officially over.
Ultimately, only one organization will get to bask in championship glory. That means plenty of offseason questions that need answering in 31 other front offices.
For Detroit, the Lions’ postseason fate was decided a week before its 9-8 record was finalized. Though Detroit ended its season with a 19-16 win in Chicago, the Lions were on the outside of the playoffs looking in. That’s meant the earliest jumpstart on an offseason for Detroit since the Lions last missed the playoffs in 2022.
As the organization searches for its next offensive coordinator, there will be personnel questions that need answered in Detroit once its coaching staff for 2026 is in place.
ESPN took an early look at every NFL team’s offseason guide, highlighting a popular position group of discontent among Detroit fans.
What is their top offseason priority? Improve the offensive line. Detroit ranked 20th in run block win rate (70.7%) and 30th in pass block win rate (55.2%). The unit struggled to adapt with the offseason departures of four-time Pro Bowl center Frank Ragnow, who abruptly retired in June, and veteran guard Kevin Zeitler, who signed with the Titans. – ESPN.
That’s the prevailing thought surrounding the Lions this offseason. Detroit needs to get the nasty back up front in order to return to the playoffs and to capitalize on this window with quarterback Jared Goff, receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams and running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery.
Graham Glasgow wasn’t the answer at center and the Lions can’t bank on younger, learning on the job options at center after the disappointment of 2025. Left tackle Taylor Decker’s future is in limbo, too, so there could be a fair bit of shuffling up front for Detroit.
