The New England Patriots haven’t had the best defensive performances this season, as they’ve allowed the 18th-most points per game (22.5) and the 20th-most yards per game (345.2).

However, second-year cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who missed most of his rookie season due to injury, has been phenomenal. Despite facing some of the most talented wide receivers in the league each week, Gonzalez has kept most of his matchups in check this year.

According to Pro Football Reference, he’s allowed completions on just 55.4% of balls thrown in his direction, and he’s surrendered just two touchdowns. Opposing quarterbacks have a 75.8 passer rating when targeting him.

Unfortunately for New England, the 22-year-old popped up on their injury report on Friday due to a hip injury that limited him during their final practice session of the week.

Will he play in Week 12 against the Miami Dolphins at Hard Rock Stadium?

Christian Gonzalez injury update

On Friday, the Patriots added Gonzalez to the injury report and listed him as questionable for the AFC East showdown. If a player is really limited, a team can rule them out the day before the game, but New England didn’t do that with the cornerback.

Early Sunday morning, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported that Gonzalez is “considered likely to play” in the game.

The former first-round pick may get some work on the field before the matchup just to make sure he’s feeling good, but signs point to him playing.
