While NFL fans never want to see the end of the season, the good news is that they don’t have to wait as long for free agency to kick in. Once the Super Bowl ends, all of the free agency predictions start to come out and the Buffalo Bills should be active in free agency to improve their offense.
Last offseason, the Bills went heavy on defense in free agency. They brought in players like Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, and Michael Hoecht. They also brought back guys like Tre’Davious White, Dane Jackson, and Jordan Poyer as a reunion. Then in the NFL Draft, Buffalo didn’t draft an offensive player until the 5th-round with Jackson Hawes.
This upcoming offseason, no matter what happens with the postseason, the Bills need to put their focus on improving the offense. The biggest concern to address is clearly at the wide receiver position.
They have now gone two seasons without a clear No. 1 wideout for Josh Allen and they have found out the tough way on what life is like without a true go-to guy for their star quarterback.
It makes you wonder how Buffalo will address (assuming that they do). Should they look to trade for one? Maybe draft one? Or would they wait to see who is out on the free agent market? Either way, the Bills need to get Allen a number one wideout.
B/R has Bills listed as suitor for Cowboys’ star wide receiver
Kristopher Knox from Bleacher Report put together a list of the Top 50 pending free agents as we approach the Wild Card games, and at number one on Knox’s board is Cowboys wide receiver, George Pickens. Knox listed both the Bills and Titans as potential suitors. Here’s a bit of what Knox said about Pickens:
“Pickens should be the top target of virtually all teams in need of a true top target, provided they have the cap flexibility to offer a top-10 receiver contract.”
Kristopher Knox, Bleacher Report
After being traded from the Steelers to the Cowboys before this season, Pickens had his major breakout season in what people would consider the best offense for him. With him and CeeDee Lamb on the outside, the Cowboys were able to move the ball through the air with no issue.
Pickens finished his season with 1,429 yards and 9 touchdowns, both which are career-highs. Now granted, it was a contract year and players tend to outplay their final year so that they can get paid big time.
It would be extremely surprising if Pickens wasn’t in Dallas next season, but if he somehow makes it into free agency, the Bills must explore the option of making Pickens the next No. 1 wideout for Allen.
This Buffalo offense is very dangerous, but their passing attack has been inconsistent. They just don’t have that one true playmaker who opponents fear on the outside. If you put Pickens in this Bills offense, he would be someone that defensive coordinators would have to game plan for, which would open up the playbook.
Obviously, we will have to wait to see what happens with Pickens and Dallas because a lot of fans are expecting him to be wearing the Cowboys’ star for the future. At the same time, we know that anything can happen. Either way, having a dream scenario of Pickens catching passes from Allen would be quite the scenery.
