The Kansas City Chiefs suffered another loss in their last game, falling to the Denver Broncos on Christmas Day, 20-13. This marked the Chiefs’ fifth straight defeat as the season continues to get from bad to worse for this squad.
The Chiefs have already been eliminated from playoff contention, which is the first time they won’t be playing in the postseason since 2014. They have nothing more left to play for this season, but Kansas City will at least want to end their campaign on a high note by getting a win in their final game.
The Chiefs will face the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 18, and it will be an opportunity for them to bust out of their deflating losing skid and close out the season with a victory.

However, before the Chiefs return to the field against the Raiders, they will need to wait for the NFL’s decision on an incident from the Broncos game. This comes in the form of an unnecessary roughness penalty on second-year tackle Kingsley Suamataia.
There was no shortage of action in the Christmas Day showdown between these two AFC West rivals. There was some extracurricular activity early in the second quarter after the Chiefs had scored the first touchdown of the evening. Following Kansas City’s successful extra-point attempt, players from both teams had to be separated by the referees after a heated confrontation.
After discussing the incident, the game officials called two personal fouls on the play. Suamataia was flagged for unnecessary roughness for his role in the sequence, which was offset by a personal foul on Broncos defensive end John Franklin-Myers. Since these were offsetting penalties, there was no loss of yardage from either team.
Nevertheless, the NFL Officiating Department will review this incident. Unnecessary roughness is a fineable offense, and this could result in disciplinary action for both Suamataia and Franklin-Myers.
For context, the league fined 21 instances of unnecessary roughness in Week 16. The fines ranged from $4,981 for the Green Bay Packers’ Jayden Reed for a facemask penalty to a hefty $23,186 fine for Alex Singleton of the Broncos for use of the helmet.
The NFL will announce its decision via the gameday accountability report on Saturday.
The Chiefs will be on the road for their final game of the season. The Raiders will host that Week 18 matchup at Allegiant Stadium. The Broncos, on the other hand, will close out their campaign at home against the Los Angeles Chargers.
