Fans react to Travis Kelce’s post-game answers to retirement questions

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Chiefs fans packed Arrowhead Stadium on Christmas night amidst a losing season.

Fans were there to support the team, but also wanted to ensure they saw what could be Travis Kelce’s last game at Arrowhead.

“It’s just one of those things that if this is his last game, home game, I don’t want to miss it. Thanks for the memories. I really hope we’ve got one more season with him,” said Amanda Shelton, who decided to drive with family from Texas and spend Christmas in Kansas City.

After the 20-13 loss to the Broncos, the team’s fifth in a row, Travis Kelce didn’t give any firm answers about his future plans.

“You only get a few of those where you just get to appreciate 60,000-70,000 Chiefs fans screaming for you. I always embrace that moment,” Kelce said after the game.

But fans are certainly dissecting his comments and the game script to try to figure out his next move.

“Honestly, I’ve been focused on just trying to win football games, man. I’ll let that be a decision I make with my family, friends and the Chiefs organization when the time comes,” Kelce said.

“From what I’ve gathered, him saying we’re going to decide together, his family, the organization, I think he’ll announce when he’s ready. But it kind of sounds like he’s getting there,” Shelton said.

“We know it’s a reality, though. With the way that last drive went, it kind of felt like it’s his last game at Arrowhead,” Danielle and Jeremy Dunbar said.

Kelce caught all the team’s passes in that final drive and was targeted on four of the five throws.

“I hope it’s not his last game at Arrowhead, but I’m excited that we were there in case it was. And I thought he did well yesterday and played well and showed up for his team and that’s all that we can ask for,” Angie Butler said.

All we can ask for, maybe? But fans can certainly dream of him hoisting the Lombardi Trophy one more time.

“I’d like to see him come back another year and finish the season with Patrick. Finish his career versus this season and the way it ended,” Jeremy Shockey said.

Kelce said he’d yet to speak to Patrick Mahomes about his injury, his rehab, and how the whole situation might impact his plans for next season.
