Packers lose TE John FitzPatrick to torn Achilles tendon

Green Bay Packers tight end John FitzPatrick tore his Achilles tendon during Saturday night’s loss to the Chicago Bears and will miss the rest of the 2025 season, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. Testing done Sunday confirmed the injury.

FitzPatrick, now in his second season with the Packers, went down while blocking a defender in the second half. It appeared to be his right Achilles tendon that suffered the injury.

FitzPatrick will likely miss part of the team’s offseason workout program while recovering.

Over 15 games in 2025, FitzPatrick caught 12 passes for 72 yards and one touchdown. He was on the field for 335 snaps, or roughly one-third of the Packers’ offensive snaps. When Tucker Kraft went down in Week 9, FitzPatrick stepped into a more prominent role as a run-blocker at tight end — playing at least 25 snaps in five of the last six games

FitzPatrick now joins Kraft as Packers tight ends with season-ending injuries. Green Bay’s roster now has only one healthy tight end — Luke Musgrave — so at least one addition will be required before the Packers take on the Baltimore Ravens on Saturday. Coach Matt LaFleur said the team has a “plan” at tight end moving forward. Expect FitzPatrick to go on injured reserve early this week, opening a roster spot.

Backup Josh Whyle missed Saturday’s loss to the Bears with a concussion. He did not practice last week and is assumed to still be in the concussion protocol.
