Packers Offer Telling Update on Jordan Love After Concussion

Packers Offer Telling Update on Jordan Love After Concussion

The Green Bay Packers saw both of their top two quarterbacks sustain injuries against the Chicago Bears in a crushing loss on Saturday night, December 21, but the news wasn’t as bad as it could have been one day later.

Head coach Matt LaFleur spoke with media members on Sunday about Love’s progression  through the concussion protocol and the chances that he might return for the team’s game against the Baltimore Ravens on December 27.

“That’s a process that takes multiple days to get through. I would say yeah, you might have an educated guess [as to whether a player can return], but that’s always a tough one to navigate. There’s a lot of steps to getting through that,” LaFleur said. “I do think, just my conversations with people — I have not specifically talked to [Love] today — but it sounded like he was doing better.”

Austin Booker Could Face Punishment From NFL for Illegal Hit on Jordan Love

A reporter asked a follow-up about the nature of the hit that injured Love in the second quarter, which Bears defensive end Austin Booker leveled and for which the referees threw a flag for the penalty of roughing the passer.

“What did you think of the hit?” the reporter asked.

“What did you think of the hit?” LaFleur responded after a brief pause, with a slight smile on his face.

The reporter said he thought it was a helmet-to-helmet blow that Love may have made inadvertently worse by trying to duck the sack.

“Yeah, I think it was a hit — a hit to the head,” LaFleur said. “I think they called it the right way, and it’s an unfortunate part of our game. Sometimes it happens.”

Booker could potentially face a fine for the play, though the NFL won’t announce any penalty until next Saturday, when the Office of Gameday Accountability releases fines/punishment information for on-play activities from the previous week.

Malik Willis Battling Shoulder Injury After Bears Game

Love finished the day 8-of-13 passing for 77 yards. Backup quarterback Malik Willis went 9-of-11 for 121 yards and one score. He also ran the football 10 times for 44 yards and finished the evening second on the team in rushing.

Unfortunately for Willis, he also suffered an injury near the end of regulation — a shoulder issue that LaFleur addressed during his media session on Sunday.

“I’d say he’s pretty sore. I mean, it’s a legitimate deal that he’s dealing with,” LaFleur said. “He’s gonna be another guy that just, we’ll see where he’s at as we progress. And that further complicates the other problem [with Love].”

LaFleur wasn’t able to offer much comfort to fans regarding the team’s emergency QB situation. He named two non-quarterbacks as the team’s potential third options.

“We have two guys that we can potentially [put] in there,” LaFleur added. “[Running back] Josh Jacobs is one, and [wide receiver] Jayden Reed is the other.”
