BREAKING: Why Travis Kelce is playing today amid Chiefs’ elimination, retirement rumors

Travis Kelce is still out there.

Travis Kelce vows to finish season strong amid retirement rumors, postseason elimination - Yahoo Sports

No one would’ve blamed the Kansas City Chiefs’ legendary tight end for packing it in the rest of the season.

The Chiefs are officially eliminated from the playoffs with three games to spare. They’ve got nothing tangible to play for Sunday in Week 16 against the Tennessee Titans.

They’re also without Patrick Mahomes after his torn ACL.

Kelce will be trying to get open for Gardner Minshew this week amid rumors that this could be the last season of Kelce’s career.

Why is Travis Kelce playing today?

Football players play football, and Kelce isn’t hanging up his cleats yet.

Maybe he retires at the end of the year, maybe not, but this is a chance for him to continue to prove that he’s one of the best tight ends to ever play the game. He can keep climbing up record charts, and he can keep doing his best to make Chiefs fans happy.

It’s been a rough year, and Kelce hasn’t always been at his best.

But through the seasons, Kelce has been such a key part of all the things that have made Kansas City a dynasty.

Maybe he shuts it down a week or two early, but there’s a lot of football left this season. And at his core, Kelce is a football player who just wants to go catch a few more passes.
