BREAKING : 🚨 Chiefs React as Patrick Mahomes Makes Surprising Personal Decision Amid NFL Absence

Chiefs React to Patrick Mahomes’ Personal Decision Amid NFL Absence

Patrick Mahomes’ 2025 season with the Kansas City Chiefs was cut short by a serious injury after a roller-coaster year on the field. Through 14 games this season, Mahomes threw for exactly 3,587 passing yards, 22 touchdown passes, and 11 interceptions before suffering a torn left ACL late in Kansas City’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15. The defeat also eliminated the Chiefs from playoff contention for the first time in his nine-year NFL career.

The 30-year-old underwent successful surgery to repair both the ACL and LCL and has begun his rehabilitation with the aim of returning for the start of the 2026 season, a process the team’s medical staff estimates will take around nine months.

Mahomes’ injury not only ended his regular season early, but also brought a disappointing finish to a Chiefs campaign that saw Kansas City sit at 6-8 entering Week 16.

Though Mahomes will not play again in 2025, he made an emotional impact off the field just before the holidays. Ahead of Sunday’s Week 16 game against the Tennessee Titans, Mahomes surprised the Chiefs’ offensive line with Christmas gifts, a tradition he has upheld for years. The two-time league MVP gave out wristwatches and motorbikes as tokens of appreciation for their work throughout a difficult season.

His thoughtful gesture was captured by the team’s social media, with a video showing o-linemen laughing and celebrating as they opened the unexpected presents.

“Christmas came early for the o-line! Shoutout to QB1 for the gifts @PatrickMahomes,” the team captioned the post.

Kansas City’s front five, often under scrutiny this season amid offensive inconsistency, reacted warmly to Mahomes’ holiday gifts, with several linemen visibly enjoying the moment and thanking their quarterback in the clip shared Saturday.

The Chiefs’ offense has been middling through Week 15, averaging 328 total points (23.4 per game), placing them 15th in the NFL in scoring. The unit has also posted a 40.7% third down conversion rate this season, and rank 11th in the league.

With the 6-8 Chiefs now out of playoff contention, Kansas City’s focus turns to finishing the season with a winning record, something the franchise has managed every year since going 2-14 in 2012. Their remaining three games include Sunday’s matchup in Tennessee, a Christmas Day home game vs. the Denver Broncos (Week 17), and a regular-season finale at the Las Vegas Raiders (Week 18).

The Week 16 game against the Titans is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET on CBS.
