Browns' Shedeur Sanders Gets Bad News Amid Stefanski Uncertainty

The uncertainty surrounding the Cleveland Browns’ future has left rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders in limbo.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski’s job security is very much in question, with Cleveland posting a 6-25 record over the past two seasons. As the organization evaluates its direction, it remains unclear whether the Browns believe they can move forward with Stefanski at the helm — a decision that could significantly impact Sanders’ path forward.

“We do not know who the coach is going to be right now. We don’t know who’s going to be coaching the quarterback that we don’t know is going to be starting for this football team. So there are a lot of unknowns,” Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com said recently on the Orange and Brown Talk podcast.

If Stefanski is gone, it’s unclear how a new coach would assess the team’s current quarterback room, which has both Sanders and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel under contract for multiple years.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders Not Worried About Future

The Browns also hold two first-round picks and could decide to reboot the position with a new head coach. That would put Sanders in a tough spot and make it unlikely to see the field as the starter with the Browns. But for now, Sanders is not worrying about his future.

“I just go out here and enjoy my day. Work hard. Do everything I can. If I’m here, I’m here. If I’m not, I’m not. It’s nothing in my control,” Sanders said recently. “So I try to control what I can control. That’s going out there, making the right reads, doing the right things, being the person I am and things will fall how they’re supposed to.”

Sanders is 1-3 as the starter in Cleveland and has had some highs and lows. It’s been a learning process every week but he knows the only way to go is up.

“It’s like this is the foundation. This is where I’m building from, where I’m understanding different things,” Sanders said. “This is where everything’s translating for me. So I’m excited about it. I’m extremely excited about it because I know we’re going to get ‘em. I know we’re going to get ‘em eventually.”

Browns GM Andrew Berry Likely Safe

While Stefanski’s future is uncertain, general manager Andrew Berry seems safe. He’s coming off his best draft, which included some gems and players who can be long-term contributors. Rookie linebacker Carson Schwesinger is the front-runner for Defensive Rookie of the Year, while tight end Harold Fannin is the team’s top pass-catcher.

“I think Andrew’s coming back. I think Andrew’s coming back based on the draft that he just had. It would be hard to be holding this No. 1 pick next year that you got out of a trade and be congratulating your NFL defensive rookie of the year and touting your amazing rookie class and be like, ‘See ya, we’re done with you,’” Cabot said.

The Browns are 3-11 heading into their matchup with the Buffalo Bills, but a lot is on the line for Sanders, Stefanski, and many others looking ahead to next season.
