The Cleveland Browns had a tough showing against the Chicago Bears with a 31-3 loss, bringing the Browns to 3-11 on the season. Some of the same issues that Cleveland has been dealing with all season showed up in this loss, but there were a few key areas that contributed greatly to their defeat.

Turnovers

Shedeur Sanders threw three interceptions in this game. The turnovers weren’t all on the quarterback; there was one specific throw to Jerry Jeudy that led to a turnover. It came on a beautiful pass from Sanders, but unfortunately, it bounced off Jeudy’s chest into the arms of the defensive back. That turnover, along with the others, really hindered the Browns’ ability to keep this game close.

Penalties

Chicago Bears defense shuts down Cleveland Browns

Cleveland continued to look unprepared and dealt with another game of penalties that greatly hurt drives. Early in the game, the Browns had three penalties before they even ran their fourth play on offense. Consecutive penalties like that decimate drives and hurt the teams’ ability to build momentum and consistency.

Offensive Line Struggles

Cleveland’s offensive line has been missing a number of players throughout the course of the season due to injury and that has continued to hurt the team’s ability to protect the quarterback and give them time to throw the ball. Sanders was sacked five times today, so the lack of protection is not setting him up for success in this offense.
